About Department
The English Department of the college is one of the most proactive departments of the college with two full-time sanctioned posts. It has a renowned history with regard to faculty. The Department of English of Smt. Surajdevi Ramchand Mohata Mahila Mahavidyalaya was headed and shaped by Dr. Prerna A P Singh right from its inception in 1989. Thereafter it is headed by Dr. Rajendra Vithal Waghmare.
Vision
Since the inception, the vision of the Department has been to strive for academic excellence and to advance research expertise in the core areas of English Studies as well as allied areas.
Mission
The Department of English strives to help its UG students develop academic distinction together with refining English skills and abilities required in the professional world. Inculcate Soft Skills and Life Skills among the students of the region. Continue collaborations with institutions of higher learning in India and abroad.
Incumbency List
The Department of English as consistently striven to provide quality teaching to students who are drawn to the college from all over the region. In terms of resources and infra-structure too, the department has the latest audio-visual equipment at its disposal including, a Language laboratory with 20+1 consoles connected with LAN with ZYBRO DYL software. The department has a Departmental Library and a good collection of high-quality books in the central library-some purchased and others donated by Dr. Prerna Singh. The department offers a three year BA English program at UG level. It offers a Career Oriented Course (COC) Functional English, Value added programs like English Communication Skills and English Grammar to the students on the campus. Apart from this the department runs Bridge Courses in English Language. English Literary Forum(ELF) creates a platform for the students to express the extra and co-curricular activities such as Poetry readings, Story Readings, dramatics, Prepared Speeches, Elocution, debates, Grammar games, Literary quizzes, etc. The department publishes its over-all activities organized during the academic year in the Souvenir, Dnyansaurabh. The boards are placed where Model Answers and other Departmental Activities are placed. The department is proud of its alumnae who are serving the society at various institutions as teachers, officers, etc. in and around the region. So, both the staff and the students of the department have been fairly active in the past and hope to lead the department and college to greater heights in future too.
